NBR is both an Elected Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences (FASc.2017) and Honorary Fellow of the Karnataka State Science and Technology Academy (2020 onward). He has also won a University of Mysore Golden Jubilee Foundation award. He has several accolades to his name and is the recipient of one national and two state science awards. He was the local secretary for the 103rd Indian Science Congress conducted at the University of Mysore. He is currently a UGC-BSR faculty and has authored and published more than 200 papers in international journals till date. He was instrumental in establishing the department of studies in Genetics and Genomics in 2015 and also was its founder-chairman.
He joined his alma mater in 1992 as a faculty of Zoology. NBR later worked as a Senior Research Associate II at the University of California, Los Angeles (1999-2000). He completed his PhD from the University of Mysore and did his postdoctoral studies at McMaster University, Canada.
